Volunteers

The best way to participate in the life of a church community is to get involved as a volunteer.  There are plenty of jobs to go around, and something to suit every age and level of ability.  For example, have you thought about:
  • Reading the Bible, playing music, counting the offering or being a welcomer at our Sunday worship?
  • Arranging flowers, serving morning tea, keeping our facilities clean?
  • Leading children's worship, or helping to lead adult worship as a Liturgical Assistant?
  • Visiting people who are sick or housebound, or taking Holy Communion as a Lay Pastoral Minister?
  • Helping at the Op Shop or in the gardening group?
  • Giving a hand with odd jobs or small maintenance tasks?

For some roles, volunteers need police clearances or Working With Children checks - the parish can arrange these at no cost to volunteers.  Training is offered for many roles, either within the parish or at training workshops run by the Diocese.  For other roles the best training is offered 'on the job' by other members of the team.  If you would like to talk about volunteering for any of the above roles - or if you have any ideas about new ways of being of service at St Michaels - please contact Fr Evan.

On this page you will find the latest volunteer roster, and lists of duties/hints for some of the volunteer roles at St Michaels.  Note that if you are on the roster and you find you cannot be present on that particular date, it is your responsibility to arrange a swap with another volunteer.  Contact details for all volunteers are included in the Parish Directory.  Please let Fr Evan or one of the Wardens know if you need any other information or help in order to do the tasks you have volunteered for.
